How Greg Became an Authorized Reseller for FreePOS
Before I started in this business full time, I worked in my family's hospitality business for 22 years. In that time I met many other proprietors in the same business, two of whom are Cookie Todd and Sue Anderson from The Sunshine Depot in Elk River, MN. They knew me as a former fellow proprietor and computer services owner, and knew that I lived locally. This is why they called and asked me if I would be interested in installing a new POS system for them, something I had never thought about before. They were looking for a less expensive and more reliable system, and wanted someone who would provide better service than they were getting from their current vendor. After about three weeks of research on the hardware and software, I was ready to give them a price quote.
We decided not to go with all-in-one computers. We wanted something that could be easily replaced if one suddenly went down. We also decided to use as much of The Sunshine Depot's old peripheral hardware as possible.
Then it came down to which software would best meet their needs. We could choose from many shareware providers, as well as several large POS companies that would install proprietary software on the chosen hardware. The big companies proved to be far too expensive, and most of the shareware companies didn't seem to give good service or didn't support the hardware The Sunshine Depot already had, so I kept looking for options. Then, on the last day of researching in Google, I ran across a company that offered their software for free to run two POS stations. They also had great deals for additional licenses. This company is called FreePOS.
The story doesn't stop with FreePOS . It seems to start there. With the help of Positive-Feedback software owner Todd Norvell, the makers of FreePOS, and the patience of the ladies at The Sunshine Depot, I set up the database, software, hardware and network, and am now a FreePOS authorized reseller.
