Before I started in this business full time I worked in my families hospitality business for 22 years. In that time I met many other proprietors in the same business. A couple of these proprietors are Cookie Todd and Sue Anderson from The Sunshine Depot in Elk River. They new that I was a former fellow proprietor, a computer services owner, and lived locally. The reasons above where why they called me and asked me if I would be interested in installing a new POS system for them. It was something I had never thought about before. They were looking for something less expensive then they had. They also wanted something more reliable and someone who would give them better service then they had before.
After about three weeks of research on the hardware and software I was ready to give them a price quote. We decided not to go with all in one computers. We wanted something that we could easily replace if one of theirs suddenly went down. We also decided to use as much of their old peripheral hardware as possible. Then it came down to the what software to use. There were many shareware options available. There were also many of the large POS companies that would install their software on our hardware. The big companies proved to be way to expensive. Most of the shareware companies didn't seem to give very good service or didn't support the hardware we already had. The last day I was researching I ran across a company doing a Google search. This company offered to give their software away for free to run two POS stations. They also had great deals for more licenses. This company is called FreePOS.
The story doesn't stop with FreePOS. It seems to start there. I had never set up a database in my life, let alone a POS system. With the help of Todd Norvell the owner of Positive-Feedback software, the makers of FreePOS, and the patience of the ladies at The Sunshine Depot I am now a FreePOS authorized reseller.
